Kamari Equals Summer Beach Fun!

If there is one village that symbolizes the rapid Santorini tourist development in recent decades it is Kamari.

This now so popular beach resort has been created out of virtually nothing as this area was uninhabited only some 50 years ago!

The excellent beach found here has contributed to the rapid development of modern tourist infrastructure and amenities.

It is, however, not only a tourist spot. Kamari has a significant number of permanent inhabitants and is a vibrant community with banks, shops, restaurants, nightclubs, cinemas, etc.

Highlights

Kamari's unique black beach is one of the best and most popular of the Santorini beaches.

This well-organized beach stretches for some 2 kilometres and is made up of fine black sand. You are sure to find all conceivable forms of water-sports here, including diving.

From here you can take a ride on a caique, a small traditional fishing boat, and visit the nearby island of Anafi.

Lining the beach are many wall-to-wall beach bars that appear to be in a constant party mode, at least from afternoon to early morning.

Kamari really is the beach party central of Santorini!

Apart from the beaches, the village also attracts people who come to visit the nearby archaeological site of Ancient Thira.

A festival with plenty of food, wine and music is held at the church of Panagia Mirtidiotissa on September 24th. Tourists are always very welcome to participate.

Speaking of festivals, Kamari is the host of the yearly Santorini jazz festival, which is held in Cinekamari, a very nice and popular Santorini cinema located in a cozy garden just before entering the village.

Finally, for a simple but highly recommended activity try and catch a view of the moon as it rises glowing orange from the dark waters off Kamari beach.

Access

Kamari is easily accessible by car or local bus from Fira. To get there by car just take the south road of Fira towards Karterados and the airport. Then take a right when you come upon the signs for Mesa Gonia and Kamari.
