Actually, including wedding opportunities on a travel site is not that unusual considering the increasing demand for destination weddings.

Santorini weddings are big business as it is one of the most popular wedding locations in the world.

We simply cannot see ourselves having a website devoted to Santorini without a special section on weddings.

Once reserved for the rich and famous, destination weddings is now becoming increasingly popular.

People from all walks of life are opting for a wedding location away from their hometown. It is only natural to want to add some exotic flair to the big day.

This is what it was like for us. After having visited Santorini for the first time, we knew in our hearts that this was the place where we would get married.

To most couples, the great attraction of a Santorini wedding lie first and foremost in the beauty of the landscape and the undeniable romantic feel of the white-washed houses and churches.

Getting married on the edge of a sunset-drenched volcano, with one of the most beautiful backdrops you can imagine, is truly a memory of a lifetime.

Things to know before planning your wedding on Santorini

Number one... plan ahead!

Santorini is a busy, busy wedding location. It is typically completely booked a long time in advance.

We managed to book our wedding date only six months in advance, but if you have your eyes set on a special date make sure you book a year or more in advance.

What type of wedding do you want?

Both civil and church Santorini weddings are performed.

Note, however, that as of July 14, 2008, orthodox weddings of non-Greek citizens are not allowed here (or anywhere in Greece).

What documents do you need?

Unfortunately, you may discover that there is a lot of paperwork involved with arranging your dream wedding in Greece.

This is something we cannot deny. We certainly did spend quite a lot of time on it in the months before our wedding.

The important thing is that you get the facts on what documentation you need, and start working on it early.

Do not try and cut any corners. The Greek bureaucrats are completely inflexible when it comes to bending the rules for you. You must comply 100% with their requirements.
